1987: Darth Vader

This was the first time I tried making a full costume as an 'adult' (okay, as a teenager). I was glad to be old enough to finally have a more-adult body that could sort-of pull it off, as well as be old enough to figure out how to create the costume I wanted.

With poster board, cheap sunglasses, a toy helmet, black spray paint, and paper/cloth-maché on a straw frame, I made my mask and helmet. Maybe not the most accurate, I'll admit, but it still got the idea across. My grandma was kind enough to make the cape.

I wore this to school and had a lot of fun. The best part, however, wasn't the costume - I had with me a tape recorder/player that played music while I went walked between classes. People would turn their heads to hear the 'Imperial March' as Darth Vader walked down the hall!
