2003 - Fifties Party
For Christine's birthday, she decided to throw a 'fifties themed' birthday party. So we participants were asked to dress in 50's-style clothing. I didn't want to do the Fonze look because it seemed a little too cliché. Instead, I got advice from my dad (who was in high-school during the fifties), and we looked at some of his old yearbooks. He showed me that the two main male hairstyles was either the buzz cut or the 'Duck Tail' (also known as the D.A.). Not wanting to get a buzz, I chose the latter, so I didn't wash my hair for a couple days (gross by today's standards), and on the day of the party, I got it wet and then put hair gel in it (grosser still), slicked it back, and added a curl in the front. The result was a fairly authentic, greasy hair style. The rest of the ensemble was a plaid shirt I already had (which I always thought made me look old. Now I knew why - because it looks older in style.). The letterman's sweater I borrowed from my friend Meredith. (It was her dad's from his high-school days.) From her I also got some toy plastic glasses (I couldn't get authentic horn-rimmed). A white t-shirt, white socks with loafers, and some rolled up jeans completed the ensemble.
Matt Haeger went along similar lines as me (I lent him the glasses to help his costume out), whereas Clint did the biker route. He was too cool for me...
